Warwick Castle

Warwick castle was an adventurous day where we were able to explore an existing and still functioning castle.

I know I've posted quite a few of those already but this one was set up like an amusement park for the entertainment and education of children. A lot of the treasures and historical items that were inheritantly with the castle are still on display for the public to peruse and learn about.

What was really interesting were the displays of arms that were demonstrated for the public in order to teach how certain things worked. For instance, as we were approaching the front gate of the castle there was a man demonstrating how the English long bow worked, the best type of wood to be used for arrows depending upon what type of combat one was in, and also how the differing feathers from various birds can effect the flight of the arrow. It was really exciting to see that particular weapon in action since I've done a lot of reading about it in my studies. Another of my favorite weapon demonstrations was that of the trebuchet.
There was also a falconry show that showed how the birds of prey were utilized by the lords of the castles for messages and for hunting purposes. It was like a hands on field trip into medieval England. (So much fun.)
